A quick update to the review: For the first heavy, wet snow, this two-stage blower did great. Its relatively small size makes it much easier to turn, pull back and generally maneuver than the bigger ones I've had in the past. Small size means storage is much better (less space). The engine is plenty powerful: it did not stall, a first for blowers I've used in heavy snow. The tires are relatively tall for the size of the blower and have an aggressive tread - this meant the blower slipped much less than old ones I've had before.

As to snow clearing time relative to other blowers: no complaints. The top gears are plenty fast for an inch or two of snow, the lowest gear perfect for clearing compacted snow left by the street plow. You won't be cursing the street plow nearly as much.

If you're in average shape and/or getting up a bit in years, I highly recommend this blower: its smaller size and weight mean less strain, less wear-and-tear on the operator.

Original review is below, which I still agree with. Still waiting until after the first season to give it a fifth "star," but it's very likely I will.

The Power Smart DB7659 22-Inch two-stage snowblower with LCT 208cc "StormForce" engine is well constructed. All indications are it will be a great performer and superb value.

For this snowblower, my purchase decision was based upon:

1) We often get very wet, heavy snow up here - so a two-stage blower is a must.
2) I'm tired of the big, heavy blowers. Tough to lift and wrestle with, and they take up too much space.
3) Reviews so far had been favorable, the same goes for what I see of its LCT "StormForce" engine.
4) Price. Pretty tough to beat $499 delivered for something of pretty decent quality.

This blower has a small "maw" (22" wide by 16" high front housing). Coupled with a relatively large engine for its size (reportedly ~6.5 HP), it should do well in the heavy wet stuff. I especially like that this engine is made for the cold. I read an internet review that down-rated this model because the reviewer thought a small maw would mean longer snow-clearing times. I think you can disregard that: I put it together yesterday and gave it a quick trial run (no snow yet though). The top forward speeds are plenty fast to make quick work of lighter snow. The slowest forward speeds seem quite appropriate for the heavier stuff.

The blower was delivered by a professional crew who called me a day ahead with a delivery window. Power Smart cares about the packaging and delivery, both were great. Getting the unit out of the cardboard "crate" (the box had reinforced, crate-like construction) was an easy two-person lift. To make a one-person job of it, you could also rip the box apart to expose the blower (just be careful of long thin staples).

Read through the assembly. Attaching the rear handle wasn't bad, just take your time so as not to kink the cables for drive and auger engagement. You'll need a few wrenches (adjustable or metric) to attach the throw-chute and adjust the height-setting bolts of the front skid-plates.

Based on my experience with throw-chutes, I sprayed white lithium grease where the chute rotates against its base. That helps to prevent wet slush from freezing there. I spray lithium grease anywhere I see a seize-up opportunity from freezing slush, and keep a can in the coat pocket when the freezing slush is really bad.

Tires were inflated to 20 lbs., I topped them off to 22 lbs. with a bicycle pump. It's not in the blower or engine manuals, but the 208cc StormForce takes 1/2 quart of oil. It comes dry, so fill with 5w-20 or 5w-30, and synthetic oil as synthetic is reported to still flow at much colder starting temperatures. Use non-ethanol gas, 87 or higher.

Choke and gas-flow on, ignition "key" in and ignition switch "On." Three pumps of the primer (not too fast). Took a few pulls for gas to get into the firing chamber, the engine started on the sixth one. Turned it off via ignition switch. Tried the electric starter, worked great.

The attached cap on the electric starter's extension cord plug-in is a great touch: I could see snow getting in there otherwise. Another one: the snow clearing scoop, and it's clip-on attachment to the front housing. Beats having to look for and using a broom handle.

Engaged the auger, no problem. Tried the reverse and four forward speed settings, all work fine. Again, they seem very appropriate for anything from light and fluffy to heavy slush. Note: no blower I've ever used handles the very worst heavy, freezing slush. Just have to break out the shovel. This blower should perform as well as any of the bigger ones I've had, I hope.

"Handling" seems more loose than the bigger ones I've had. Nothing I think will affect performance, however. I could see the manufacturer of a much more expensive unit spending effort and cost to make the handling experience a bit more "solid."

Along with the manuals, it comes with oil-fill funnel, spark plug wrench, oil draining pipe, two spare shearing bolts (for the front augers), and a few "mystery" clips that I'll have to re-read the manual about. Doesn't seem to need them ...

Perhaps a caution: I'd guess the exhaust manifold/guard will get quite hot. The gas cap is plastic and tethered such that it would be easy to flip onto the hot exhaust guard. So, be careful to bring the cap around to the side of the tank instead. Also, as the manual states, wait for a hot engine to cool some if you need to refill with gas.

In conclusion: I very much like what I've seen so far from this snow-blower. I'll revisit this review after the first snow season, hopefully to upgrade it to "5 stars." If I find any negatives, I'll report accordingly. Grab this one if you're inclined.
